200 whatsapp messages to decide who will pick up whom and from where :)) . Finally it all works out and we meet in Aundh and start the journey by 3:30 pm. The plan is to drive 250 kms and hit Kolhapur by 7-7.30 pm and spend the night there. Dude had been to Goa few weeks back and he already had a hotel in Kolhapur in mind. "Mast place hai, 2500 bucks per room, neat rooms, good food and we wont even have to go inside Kolhapur since it is on the highway" :) The usual sales pitch that anyone of us would fall for :)
So, we start at 3:30 pm and luckily the weather supports us. It starts raining and the heat disappears. Butts as usual is at the wheel and he is driving fast, but he is driving steady. The roads are okayish up to the Katraj bypass after which they are much better. The chatter starts and we start discussing random stuff. Vijay is the most silent and is concentrating on the music humming along. Around 5 pm, we halt at Shirwal at Hotel Shree Ram. The place is famous for its wadapavs as per Butts. The board says "Best Wadapav" and that's what we decide to order along with tea. There is this nepali waiter who surprisingly speaks fcuking fluent and shuddh marathi "Goram goram wada pav pahije tar 2 mint thamba". The wada pavs are fresh and hot and delicious. Dude enquires about "Shabu wada" which turns out to be sabudana wada.") Its a good start. 15 mins later we are back on NH4 and it is still raining and the music is surprisingly groovy.
Butts being his usual self declares that we will be in Kolhapur by 7:15 pm. It looks tight but the way he is driving we have a chance. The roads are good and the traffic is thin.
We pass by Satara and Karad and reach Hotel Sai International a minute before 7 pm and guess who has a smile on his face :)
The first thing that hits me when I am out of the car is the pleasant weather and cool breeze. Kolhapur has been blessed by the rain recently too and it feels fcukin awesome. Its 21 degrees and all I can think of is my monkey cap. The hotel is excellent, its clean and tidy, the rooms are well maintained and its a steal for 2500 bucks. I try to bargain but fail and 2500 it is! We check in and get fresh and order beer and starters.
Butts and Vivek are busy chalking out the route for the next day and it feels good to be away from the action. The food arrives and it is pretty good. We have long conversations about marriage, women, life in Pune and other various topics. It is not a surprise that though we have advice for each other, it is extremely difficult for us to step into each others shoes and imagine what they are going through in life. I as usual talk too much without making much sense, but these guys know me so well that no one interrupts. The main course arrives and disappears fast.
The last conversation before hitting the bed is when to leave next morning. Dude says 6, butts says 7 and I say 8 and Vijay nods for all 3 options. :) We talk for 10 mins on this without coming to a conclusion. Reminds me of office where we discuss when to schedule the next meeting :). by 11 pm all of us have hit the sack.
Quote of the day: There were many contenders..
"Aaj teri baari hai, kal Vijay ki g*** maarenge"
"Butts, usse durr reh, uska tail lights band hai"
"dude, detach yourself".
But the winner is "Failed investments dont mean that you have to stop trying."
Most frequently used sentence: "Butts ..gaadi slow chala"
