99

Of late the comedy offerings from bollywood have been forgettable and below par. This relative comparison with its peers makes 99 look special.

99 is an ordinary comedy movie with difference. The difference being, an almost perfect cast and some really humorous moments. Though the story and plot are old, but the treatment is fresh. The first 1/2 hr of the movie is confused and messy, but after that the story catches pace and rhythm. The movie is set in Mumbai in the late nineties when mobile phone craze was just catching on. Kunal Khemu and Cyrus Broacha accidentally ram an expensive car which belongs to an underworld gangster cum bookie, Mahesh Manjrekar. To recover his losses, he makes the duo work for him as recovery agents. The fun starts when they are sent to Delhi to recover 20 lacs from Boman Irani. The rest is a maze of intertwined events that leave you asking for more. The dialogues are great (there are some terrific one liners), comic timing of the actors is good and the comedy scenes are pretty well laid out.

As I said the cast is awesome. Boman Irani and Mahesh Manjrekar are splendid. Kunal Khemu is his usual self and so is Cyrus. Soha Ali Khan doesn’t have much screen presence.A special mention to Kuber (Amit Mistry) who has fared extremely well.

So, don’t miss this one!

Har lamha, har pal..

Badle raaste jharne aur nadi,
Badli deep ki timtim,
Chedhe zindagi dhun koi nayee,
Badli barkha ki rimjhim,
Badlengi rituyein adaa,
Par mein rahungi sada,
Ussi tarah teri bahon mein baahein daalke,
Har lamha, har pal..

My favorite lines from "Kaise Mujhe". I love Shreya Ghoshal's silky-smooth, melodious voice.

Karmic connection

There are people who buy stocks on instinct or recommendations or tips. But I am not one of them. I do my homework before entering a stock. I have a set of long term stocks and some short term ones in my portfolio. They are a mix of largecap and middlecap stocks.
I do a lot of research before buying any scrip. I spend a lot of time and energy in analyzing the financials of the targeted stock, check out the fundamentals, read the latest news about the company, keep track of it for days. After all I am going to put in my hard earned money into it. I want to be completely sure about the returns. So, after tracking it for days and studying the pattern, I wait for the right moment to grab it. And then one fine day I buy it.
And then..the inevitable happens...it starts falling... falling so badly that I go broke in trying to average it out. Finally I give up and there it lies in my portfolio for years. For years..in red..it lies...making me feel miserable.

I dont want to boast, but I have a strike rate of 100% in this.

This is my karmic connection with the Indian stock market.

So, my dear friends, there is a simpler way for you to make a profit from a stock.

..You just have to ask me if I have it too.

The best in the business

The place: Four friends in a small apartment in Mumbai, glued to the television.

The date: Jan 22 1994.

The event: Royal Rumble.

The match: The Undertaker v/s Yokozuna..Casket match

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=doDoT9f5Vlc

All of us are spellbound..The Undertaker is murdering Yokozuna. All of Yokozuna's moves are being countered and we know that it is a matter of minutes before Yokozuna gives in. Suddenly two men come to ring and start assaulting the Taker. Two more...four more...Now there are ten. There are TEN men assaulting the Undertaker. In our hearts, we know that the Phenom (Undertaker..as he is called by some) will strike back any moment and kick their asses. As expected he rises and takes them on. But there are too many of them. The valiance goes in vain. He is down on the floor again. The brutal massacre continues. We are running out of patience. "Wont someone come and help the Phenom??" We wait and we wait as Undertaker takes the beating of his life. And then the impossible happens. The Urn is snatched from Paul Bearer and opened. The Urn supposedly is the life source.. the spirit of the Dead Man (Undertaker..as he is called by some others). We are flabbergasted. This is insane! It cant be possible! As the smoke rises from the Urn, Undertaker's body loses strength. Its hard to believe. Slowly they push him into the casket, close the lid and lock him up. Noways!!! This aint true..it cant happen..Undertaker cant be dead!!

As we are swearing and shouting..Suddenly something magical happens..something that drives us to ecstasy...Undertaker's soul rises from the casket. His image appears on the screen and he opens his eyes and proclaims his rebirth.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

This was one of the happiest moments of my life...The Rebirth of the Phenom. The phenom... who is the best in the business.

Thank you WWE for many such fantastic matches.
